In the shadow of baseballs Hall of Fame, the Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency hit a home run at the annual meeting of the state’s premiere economic development organization. Competing against other organizations at the meeting of the New York State Economic Development Council in Cooperstown, NY, the Hempstead IDA walked off with high honors in the awards category of Marketing and Professional Materials, according to Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray.

Hempstead won a “Best of Class” plaque for its aggressive and innovative multi-media advertising program. Working closely with its ad agency, Ehrlich Advertising and Marketing of Rockville Centre, the IDA has undertaken a campaign of public education using television, radio and print materials to reach its base – present and potential business owners. The program focuses on Hempstead, the nation’s most populous town, as the ideal place to grow ones business. It is geared toward maintaining businesses currently located in the town and attracting others to the town.

The Hempstead IDA also received Honorable Mention for its professionally developed website – – which is an easy-to-access source for information about the Town of Hempstead, the kinds of projects already encouraged by the IDA (nearly $2 billion worth), and information on how to apply for the agency’s many benefits.

One of the prime features of the advertising-marketing program – a four color brochure crammed with facts in and around an outstanding graphic presentation – was singled out for praise and received a Certificate of Excellence.

“Putting this multi-faceted program into play was hard work but it was worth it,” said Fred Parola, the IDA’s executive director. “In terms of project financing we are among the most successful IDAs in the state and our advertising-marketing program deserves a lot of credit for that accomplishment.”

The 900-member New York State Economic Development Council is the state’s principal organization representing economic development professionals.

The Town of Hempstead IDA is a non-profit public agency authorized by New York State to promote economic development and job creation through financial assistance to businesses.
